Wellness Nurse Consulting

As a participant you will receive the following services based on wellness nursing principles. A nursing assessment, health problem identification, assistance in developing your wellness plan, support implementing your plan, and evaluation, summarize your services. Wellness Health Assessment - A View of You!

The nursing assessment is, a time to get acquainted and find out what you need and want for your health, a nursing skill –the art of asking just the right questions to get a picture of your health, will help identify problems or potential problems in your health. Active listening techniques are used during the assessment to really listen to your concerns. This assessment is comprehensive, looking at, your past and present health history, family history, screening your nutritional intake, activity level, life style habits, spiritual health, cultural background and life events, responsibilities and stressors impacting your health. The assessment outcome will be a view of your present health status, and lead to identifying road blocks to your health.

Discovering Barriers to Your Health

Every person is unique and therefore has many possible problems or barriers to achieving optimal health. Assistance will be given in identifying potential or present problems. Instruction will be given in how to set measurable realistic goals.

Designing Your Personal Wellness Plan

With your goals in mind, you will receive help in designing a plan to achieve your goals. This plan will be specific and unique to you based on your assessment.

Coaching You to Carry Out the Plan

Support and encouragement will be given to assist you in implementing your plan. Often clients will need education in nutrition, weight management, exercise, behavior change skills, disease prevention, food safety, relaxation techniques or community resources. Also, a client may be encouraged to communicate to their physician about their health problems or concerns and assistance in how to effectively communicate to the physician can be given.

Personal Training - the Safety Minded Fitness Education Approach

Your safety is my first consideration in providing you personal training services. I earned certifications in personal training and group exercise instruction with Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, and maintain them by taking continuing education in injury prevention, exercise management for persons with chronic diseases and disabilities and workshops about, senior fitness, women exercising through menopause, and group exercise training. I also will spend time teaching you the principles of fitness and how to monitor your own exercise, so you can assess your own activity better, and how to exercise to help prevent back injury. Through out your exercise session I will closely monitor you, to help prevent injury.

Exercise Evaluation - Training - Monitoring

Overall, your personal training services will include, an initial meeting to discuss your health goals and health/exercise history, a detailed fitness assessment, aerobic exercise, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility training. After the initial interview some individuals may need clearance from their physicians for exercise. The fitness assessment is necessary to establish a beginning to safely advance you from. The American College of Sports Medicine has established guidelines for health enhancement and for the development of cardio-respiratory fitness. These recommendations, will be the foundation for your aerobic, strength training and flexibility services, taking into account your unique fitness needs and level, and providing you with safe and appropriate variations when necessary.
